Summary:

On Thursday January 29th about 15 members of the ICU community got together to create a vision for ICU. It was a very warm and rich discussion in which we also acknowledged that this is the very beginning; the first step and the process of creating the form of the work will take time.

Paul and Jane briefly shared some of their history with the work over the past 30 years. They plan to continue ICU in its current form for another 7.5 years, if all goes well. In the meantime, we (the ICU community) can develop a plan to continue the work. Of course, it's also possible that the decision will ultimately be made to discontinue the work, but we want to explore all options.

The evening’s discussion focused on a couple of questions:

What do you want for ICU? Paul and Jane are identified with the work but the work is not these two people, they just happen to be the messengers and facilitators. Should the work continue?

If yes, what would you like to give?

We in kleine groepjes uit elkaar te gaan om te praten over kansen en mogelijkheden die we zien. We kwamen toch wel op een aantal thema's aardig op hetzelfde uit namelijk.

Principles: (things that remain unchangeable)

  • Whatever happens, however ICU transforms, the foundation will always be the CIM
  • The work will always focus on providing a space in which everyone feels safe to share and be accepted without judgement
  • All persons stepping into a leadership role must be examples of living A Course in Miracles
  • This is about the work not necessarily the people doing the work.
  • Having a community to move the work forward is essential.

Other points:

  1. Many people in the community have passion, skill and talent that could be better integrated into the work. Others could be offering events, workshops etc. that are aligned with the Course and could support each other in making these events a success. For instance, if one person in the community wanted to offer something, everyone in the community would help promote it and offer whatever support was needed. This means it is more of a community effort and support system rather than one or two people taking responsibility for all aspects of planning and promotion. This would create more of a sense of community and togetherness.
  2. Many people have now completed all levels of LLM and have taken most of the current workshops. Instead of only one or two people, have more teams teaching, taking turns and supporting each other.
  3. With the above in mind, provide training (practical, during workshops and training) for community teachers and permanent assistants. The workshops don't necessarily have to maintain the present format, we could think more outside the box. However, the processes are most effective in a group setting. The structure of the workshops is important because it's already clear that it works.
  4. We need to continue building an “attraction platform” for instance like the current Telegram channel.
  5. Building on point 1, it could be helpful to create a Foundation in which more people were involved and invested.
  6. Reading and course groups from across the country could be part of a network with the overarching "work" of ICU, such as the processes, workshops, and training. We could encourage and support those who are familiar with the work in creating and maintaining these groups.
  7. Ideally, we would have a center (house or space) where the workshops and training can be held. Paul and Jane intend to travel more, connecting with other CIM communities. They intend to continue teaching here but with a lower profile, serving as mentors and support for those who want to step into a teaching/leadership role.

The proposal was to meet again in three months, sometime around the end of April. If you feel drawn to participate, please let Wilma know: info@icunow.nl.
